Chapter 243

Medusa was the legendary Gorgon of myth, said to have the upper body of a woman and the lower body of a serpent. Her hair was a writhing mass of snakes, and she possessed the beautiful face of a young maiden. Anyone who met her gaze would be turned to stone, and only Medusa’s tears could restore them.

Stories about Medusa were scarce and fragmentary. Daenerys had heard very little.

One rumor claimed that Medusa had an exceptionally intimate relationship with the Sea God. Some said she was his illegitimate daughter; others claimed she was his lover.
