Karl and Oliver were about to grab a drink with Crispin Weyland, their new acquaintance, to swap merc stories, when one of the MaxTac operators—after questioning nearby civilians—walked toward them.

Karl recognized him instantly. It was the same one who’d leapt out of the AV earlier, the one who had recognized them on sight—and very likely the one who had spared them a favor.
