The discussion about reopening the route didn’t last long. Once Karl made the decision, nobody really objected. Most of what they talked about after that was just details and early-stage work.

Because there honestly wasn’t much to debate about whether to reopen it or not. Anyone with even a little sense for opportunity could see the upside in Gago’s proposal. A lot of people at the table didn’t care for parts of Gago’s personality—cowardly, scared of dying, that sort of thing—but when it came to his competence, after what he’d shown these past days, nobody could deny it.
